Author’s Note: "Doomed – Story of a Vampire" will not begin with Season One. Instead, Doomed starts out in a Prologue Season, which takes place between Seasons 4 and 5 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Seasons 1 and 2 of Angel. The Prologue is twelve episodes long. Additionally, there will be a three-part special after the fifth episode of the prologue. The Prologue Season starts off with episode one "The Damned" which takes place directly after "Restless" (the fourth season finale of Buffy) and Jay’s journey begins in Sunnydale, and after the sixth episode concludes his journeys will lead him to Los Angeles, until he makes his way to good ol’ San Francisco. The official website is located at http://members.fortunecity.com/jawanza/ (brand spankin’ new) and will have info on upcoming stuff and episodes. Cover art, which is still in the making, will also be posted there and there’ll be an update once the editor has successfully edited the story. Meanwhile, enjoy the story as it is (there’ll be some name changing and scene editing and other additions) and don’t forget to review.
Prologue
Many years ago . . .
Many years ago, around the time the vampire, Angelus, was cursed with the revivify of his soul, there was rumored to be an extremely powerful vampire living and reeking havoc . . .
Legends say that a female assassin was sent out to destroy a village, unaware that it contained extraordinarily powerful gypsies. Unfortunately for the assassin, the gypsies were all well aware of her coming and were able to protect themselves and caught the assassin, along with several of her fellow assassins, off guard. The other assassins were supposedly killed, though their bodies were never found.
Lena, the young female assassin, was taken prisoner by the head warlock of the village. This particular case was interesting. Lena possessed extreme strength and she had managed to wipe out villages, towns, and even cities. And, she believed that she could’ve done this mission by herself- though the leader of the assassins refused to let her risk her life.
Since she moved around so much, and went under many aliases, no one could ever keep track of who she was. This prevented her from swiftly being arrested. This also prevented a certain group of people from contacting Lena. This certain group was known as the Council of Watchers- ones who would watch the rising and the beginning of the Vampire Slayer.
Numerous of these places Lena had destroy had been homes and dwellings of gypsies that had roots to the village she was captured in. It was a deadly crime in the eyes of these people, so, they were able to conjure up a specific curse that was still uncertain to work.
After holding Lena imprisoned for countless days, she finally noticed one night that the most powerful gypsies in their village had been surrounding her prison, chanting something: Their "curse" that they thought that would destroy Lena. The only word in the entire chant that Lena was able to understand was a deadly and almost terrifying word: Doomed.
The next day, Lena was released. She had been able to go on to a nearby village after a week of traveling, and she felt no symptoms of the supposed "Doomed-Curse" (which is what she was calling it). It was until after she was fired as an assassin and hunted by strange demonic creatures that she noticed she was slowing down. It wasn’t a month until she realized . . . she had become pregnant.
Nine months later, a young boy was born. The supposed curse had created a child within her. It was truly what would happen to her child that scared Lena. It was soon after her child was born that she noticed something repetitively happen to the young boy’s face. It was the same demonic face that would appear on the creatures that were constantly chasing her; these monstrous creatures that were known as. . . vampires.
But there was something different about him. After looking up information about vampires and contacting the Council of Watchers in England, there was something different about the child and the vampires. Vampires were dead, ageless creatures that were harmed by sunlight and various holy things. Her child had a heartbeat, he had been growing since birth, had been born in the sunlight, and had even been baptized. The only time the face would appear was in the darkness of night.
The council was unable to confirm what Lena’s child was or what had happened to it, but they were able to identify Lena’s special talent. She was the Slayer of Vampires. Basically a "Chosen One", who was destined to slay the vampiric forces that dwelled on the earth. So, the Council of Watchers (who watched over the Slayer) was attempting to force Lena to abandon her child and slay the vampires. This made Lena swiftly leave and head back to the village of gypsies that would be able to cure her child.
When she reached the village, it appeared one or more vampires had feed off everyone who had been there at the time. It was later discovered that a vengeful vampire, known as Darla, accompanied by two other vampires known as Spike and Drusilla, had gone to the village in hopes of reversing the spell the gypsies had cast upon Angelus. When they failed to comply, the triad of vampires attacked the village. There was no one left for Lena to contact to find a cure for her son.
Eventually, Lena was able to hide her son’s curse from the world. But, it slowly was able to explain itself. Whenever the child’s face had turned into the twisted demonic face, the usual symptoms that would kill a vampire seemed to activate themselves. Everything from sunlight to mirrors, but the crosses and holy water seemed to be taking affect. And, whenever it fell dark, the demonic side of her son would take over- but Lena managed to hold off her son by restraining him.
It was only when he was six that Lena finally located a gypsy. It was also around that time that Lena’s child had begun to develop a strange amount of power without becoming demonic. When she was able to get a hold of the gypsy, Lena showed the woman her son and her eyes widened in horror.
She explained to Lena that her son had been put under an experimental curse. The gypsies had powered Lena’s son with special strengths that the other gypsies thought would end up killing both Lena and her son. They attempted to create a vampire child that would be able to age- but with this came life. It became a living vampire. And from this, the person and the demon shared one body. The human would be able to take control of it during the day and not be harmed- unless it were to focus and turn into a vampire (bringing forth all the vampire weaknesses). But, at night, the demon half took control- though unlike most vampires, the human and demon halves shared a bond.
In addition, the only symptom that was completely unaffected was various holy things. Since part of Lena’s son was human, the weakness seemed to phase itself out. And a side-affect, that the gypsies hadn’t realized would occur, was that the cursed child had absorbed and developed Lena’s Slayer abilities. The child was stronger than most vampires and also had the abilities and skills of a Slayer. However, once reaching a certain age, the demon’s peak, the human half of the child would be trapped- destroying its agelessness and possibly its heart and its soul. It would become a true vampire.
They had figured more vampires would be drawn to the mother and child and eventually kill them. Either that or the demonic side of the child would be uncontrollable and tried to kill Lena. In self-defense (since she herself was a Vampire Slayer), they had thought that Lena would also kill her child in the doing- making it a two for one deal. They kill each other achieving their curse.
If the child were to be killed, its spirit would be revived into another newborn body. It seemed virtually impossible, but if it were somehow to enter a body with great strength and power, the child’s original powers may return. The spirit would be doomed to continue its trip into another body. But, the likelihood of this happening seemed slim to none. If it were to happen, it’d be in the far future.
The gypsy fled, but Lena thought nothing of it. It was when townsmen came one night and attacked. Though Lena held them off for a while, she wasn’t able to save herself. This left the cursed child helpless and though there were many rumors that it was killed, it is a fact that the child survived for many years before it was killed . . .
Fourteen Years Ago . . .
Many years later, though it was still said that the Doomed child was only a legend, but a government group forming below Sunnydale looked into this. The later referred to themselves as the Initiative. But, this was in the pre-Initiative days; much earlier. They were still experimenting.
One of their main experiments was the plan to revive the Doomed child. Calling forth priest, seer demons, and various other creatures, they were finally able to implant a mother with a child at the correct time to summon the spirit into the unborn baby. She was impregnated with a special child, one that had been genetically altered and enhanced.
Nine months later, a child with a strange face was born. But, a serious flaw in the experiment caused the mother to escape with the child. The mother was eventually hunted down and killed. But, she had been able to hide her child quickly enough that the government never found him. This experiment was forgotten in the records of the Initiative and so forgotten entirely when the government lab was destroyed.
It was forgotten . . .
Now . . .
"And in other news, the multiple appearances of deranged, night killers is still at large. Many people have reported strange, twisted, and possibly enhanced humans viciously attacking virtually anyone who crosses their paths. Most people remaining in their homes before dark have remained unharmed, with the exception of several homes. So, it is strongly suggested that you stay at home before it gets too dark and watch who you let into your homes."
The glow of televisions filled every single house in the small cit of Sunnydale, watching for new information on these strange killers that had been spreading through the city. Though only known to a few, the current Slayer had recently demolished the Initiative, along with several of her allies and hundreds of demons. Though the Slayer was still fighting throughout the city, she had been too worn out to completely keep on full guard to protect the city of Sunnydale.
The darkness of night filled the entire sky of Sunnydale, as the time of rash murders and attacks would soon start once again.
The dark face of a young boy peered out of his window, as there was a small shrill from outside of his window. He squinted out of his window as he finally saw a woman being pressed up against the wall of a house by a large man. He seemed to be squeezing her and doing something to her head or possibly her neck.
The boy continued watching the man, who was doing something harmful to the woman, though most people would be quite unsure what was truly happening. He released her and she collapsed to the ground. He slowly turned around, and as he did he looked up and made eye contact with the young child.
The black kid instantly froze in fear and drew back from his window. He rushed over to his couch, and lay flat on the sofa, quickly switching off his television. The kid hoped that the less attention he drew to the house, the less likely the man would want to break in. He started to inhale and exhale as he hoped that there would be no approaching footsteps up the stairs of his small flat.
The teenager released a sigh of tension as the sound of footsteps started up the outside stairs of his small apartment.
He quickly hopped up from his couch and moved to his old room. Tons and tons of junk and scrap covered over the room, but he knew what he was looking for was in clutter of junk. Before strange symptoms had started to occur, the kid had a regular life with his adopted parents. He’d go to summer camp and after school programs and such. One class he took for about two days was a wood working class. They were planning on constructing small swords, but the summer program had ended after a murder at the school.
He dug around in the scrap of old toys and old homework assignments and clothes and various other useless things. As he did, he heard a knock on his door down below.
"Hello?" said a low voice from the door down below that led to the upper flat. "Is anyone in here?"
The black teen simply ignored the threats of the man as he continued scavenging through the junk and trash.
"I know you saw me." Suddenly, the doorknob started rattling downstairs and there was a sigh as it slowly began to stop. "I need to use your telephone. There was a woman outside that was injured by some sort of animal. She needs medical attention or else she might die."
The kid continued ignoring him as he finally found what he had been looking for.
"Fine then." The doorknob started to rattle again until the knob was ripped right out of the door it opened. The door was ripped open, and the large man stood tall in front of the doorway. He took a step into the house and smiled with enjoyment. "Perfect."
The large man quietly walked into the flat and stealthily moved up the stairs to the main part of the building. Once he reached the top of the stairs, he froze as he heard a small rattling from the room directly above the door.
The strange man swiveled around and quietly moved towards the room that the child hid in. As he made his way towards the room, he smirked as he heard more rustling from the kid as he started to try to find a place to hide.
The man chuckled as he started rushing towards the room.
He lunged at the boy as he tried to hide and slammed right into him, sending both flying to the wall of the small room. They slammed into the wall, and the boy cried in terror as he felt his back make a hug dent in the wall.
The man pulled the boy away from the wall and held him up by his shirt and threw across the room to the other wall.
He hit the wall and fell to the ground. Before he could get up, the man kicked the boy and growled, "What did you see out there?"
The black teenager remained silent, as the man became even more angry and pulled him upward towards his face and growled, "I know you saw me, and I was able to enter this house with no invitation- so I’m guessing you don’t really live here." Suddenly, the man’s face started to change and his forehead started to thicken into a demonic-like look, and his eyes turned a bright yellow. His teeth began to grow and his face became more muscular. "Scared?"
"No." The kid kneed the demonic man in the crouch, and he howled in pain and dropped the teen to the ground. The kid quickly recovered and grabbed the man’s shoulders and hurled him through the doorway of the tiny room and into the hallway.
The large man moaned as he slowly began getting up. As he did, the kid released a powerful blow as he tackled the man and knocked him over. He tried to get up, but the kid had pinned him to the ground.
"What are you?" growled the man, whose face still remained twisted and demonic.
"I’d say I’m just like you . . ." Suddenly, the kid’s face started to tighten up, and his teeth started to sharpen. His eyes widened and turned a dark, blood red color, and his forehead seemed to slump down towards his eyes. "But I’d just be kidding myself." He pulled his arm back and punched the man right in the face, cracking his nose. The young demonic creature stood up and grabbed the man by his shirt collar and slid him across the small hallway and he slammed into the wall.
The demonic man moaned as he slowly got up. "You’re . . . you’re not a vampire, are you? You’re too . . . strong to be a vampire."
The black teenager pulled out a small, wooden stake that had been cut and shaped in the form of a dagger-like weapon. He ran at his full speed towards the vampire and kicked the already dazed vampire to the ground.
The teenager stood over the injured vampire and shook his head slowly. "I’m much more than a vampire." He held up his dagger-like stake over the vampire and then plunged the stake right into the vampire’s chest. As he quickly withdrew his stake from the vampire’s chest, the demonic creature shuttered for a moment as its flesh, blood, bones, and the rest of its body broke apart into millions of pieces of dust. "I’ve been damned . . ."
Chapter One
Jerrold Irvine Smith had lived alone most of his life. Though he used to have an adopted family, Jerrold also felt this emptiness when he was around his family. He felt like he didn’t belong.
When he was younger, Jerrold always used to have strange dreams about monsters and creatures of the night. Monsters that would hunt down other demonic-like creatures and attack them . . . or go after people. The monster, unfortunately, was usually Jerrold. At first, they just seemed like silly nightmares, until Jerrold slowly realized that what he was doing in the dreams was real.
His family knew; they had been specially selected by this government laboratory, known as the Initiative, to watch over him and see that he reached his full potential. When they eventually got the courage to tell Jerrold the truth, it was then that they spoke their last words. Jerrold lost control of his demonic vampire side and killed them. Jerrold managed to flee and hide from the Initiative long enough until it had to deal with the Slayer and her Slayer Circle along with their newer and more important project, "Adam."
As the years progressed, and after killing his family, Jerrold managed to gain control over his demon side, no longer fearing that it would attack at night. And not too long after his demon side was contained, his repeated loss of control of his body overnight quickly vanished, and Jerrold was almost always in complete control. Several times in the past, the experimented vampire had lost control of his demon half for several days, but they only came once every several months.
Jerrold had originally been moved away from Sunnydale and was suppose to be under careful watch elsewhere. Unfortunately, when he killed his parents, Jerrold was forced to run away and changed his name, though he doesn’t truly remember his original name. Of his many last names, Jerrold, Irvine, and Smith were the ones that remained strong in his mind.
After moving away from California, Jerrold was passed from all around America, until he ended up back in Sunnydale at the age of 13. He was able to hide his true identity from his family, which he considered to be pretty kind, until he had awoken one night in his vampire form, and lost complete control.
They ended up being no evidence of Jerrold killing them, so Jerrold was able to remain in his flat. His downstairs neighbors would watch after him from time to time, but he was more or less alone. They were allowing this until the end of the year, when he’d go to a new foster home. So, when he completed his summer classes in Sunnydale, he’d eventually just be tossed around again.
Lately, news that the Initiative was decimated eventually reached Jerrold, which made him more comfortable to remain in Sunnydale for awhile, but he knew that wherever he went, there was a chance he could run into someone who use to work there and would recognize him.
But in the meantime, Jerrold had to pass time when he had a temporary home that he could live in without being wary of others that lived there.
And Jerrold knew he wouldn’t allow people out on the streets or his friends and neighbors to be harmed just as he harmed many of his friends and family from this lifetime and from lifetimes long before. So, he would often go out to the Sunnydale cemetery to rid the grounds of vampires that still remained after the Slayer’s rounds.
But that night, something Jerrold had expected to happen eventually did happen: a run in with the Slayer of Vampires.
Jerrold was quietly making his way through the small Californian town and towards the dark and bone-chilling cemetery. Small and large tombstones and graves cluttered the ground as the young boy quickly moved through it. A mausoleum stood quietly in the center of the cemetery, while several statues remembering those who once lived in Sunnydale were spread throughout the graveyard.
As Jerrold continued walking, he slowed down when he heard two voices up ahead. He slowly drew out a round stake from his sleeves, and quickly jumped out from behind a statue.
"Hey!" Jerrold quickly slowed down when he realized that the voices he had heard was a young couple, lying on a bench, making out. When Jerrold had jumped out at them, the guy had become quickly angered and glared at Jerrold. "What the hell are you doing here! Are you spying on us kid?"
Jerrold quickly put the stake behind his back and replied, "Oh, no. I just thought I heard . . . somebody being hurt . . ."
"I think you were watchin’ us, kid." The guys slowly got up and started walking towards Jerrold. "You shouldn’t be up this late. Ain’t it passed your bedtime."
"Isn’t it passed yours," replied Jerrold, as he slowly moved backwards.
"Oh," said the guy, "I’m a lot older than you think." Suddenly, his face tightened up, and his eyes turned a blood-shot red, and slowly his teeth started to extend. "If you keep on backing away, we won’t have any fun." The vampire released a low roar and lunged straight towards Jerrold.
The teen quickly crouched down to the ground and as the vampire lunged towards Jerrold, he quickly threw the vampire over him and slammed it into a gravestone. Jerrold quickly got up and picked up the stake. "On the contraire." Jerrold released a low roar as its face started to tighten and transform into Jay, the vampire he would transform into. "This should be fun."
"No!" Suddenly, the girl who was on the bench quickly stood up and jumped towards Jerrold to try to tackle it and pin Jay to the ground, but before she could do anything Jay instantly spun around and staked the girl through the heart. Jay quickly pulled out the stake and then the vampire quivered and fell apart into dust.
Jay started towards the other vampire, but it had disappeared into the darkness. The vampire child peered around slowly, searching for where the other vampire might be hiding. "I know you’re still here . . . I can sense you."
Jay quickly spun around as the other vampire jumped down from a tree above Jay. The vamp tackled Jay and knocked the younger vampire to the ground. The other vampire punched the half-vamp in the face and lifted up the doomed vampire and threw him several feet. Jay slammed into a gravestone and felt searing pain as he cracked the stone, and his stake went flying out of his hands.
"Yes," said the other vampire, with a smirk across its face, "this is tons of fun."
"Fun’s just starting." Jay quickly drew out his dagger-like stake from his belt and started to get up. Jay dashed towards the vampire, but the larger guy punched Jay as he came in towards him. And before Jay could do anything or react to the punch, the larger vamp quickly grabbed him by his shirt.
Jay tried to kick and knee the guy, but the larger vampire had him at a disposition. The other vampire chuckled and hurled Jay across the yard and he slammed into another gravestone.
"You can’t defeat me!" roared the vampire. "I’m invincible!"
"Right, and that’s why I can do this." Before the vampire could even turn around, he felt a sharp, pointy wooden object jab into the vampire’s back and straight into its heart. As it quickly drew out of the vampire, the demon quickly started to fall apart and shattered into millions of pieces of dust. And there stood a blonde, 20-something, Caucasian girl, holding a stake that had dusted the vampire. "Gosh, gotta hate those invincible vampires."
Jay’s head shot up towards the girl and growled lowly. After getting knocked around too hard in his demonic form, Jerrold’s human self was slowly losing grip and control over its demonic half. Jay snorted angrily as he slowly rose up and approached the woman. "And you are?"
"My name’s Buffy," she replied flatly. "But, you can just refer to me as the girl that’s going to kill you now." The girl quickly drew out two stakes and lunged towards the half-vamp, as he quickly scrambled to get up.
As Jay was pulling himself together, he quickly reached for his stake, but it had disappeared. So, the young vampire swiftly reached for his dagger-like stake that was by his side in a small pouch. As the girl shot towards Jay, he swiftly kicked at her, knocking one of the stakes out of her hands and blocked the second incoming stake with his dagger-like stake.
"Funny," replied Jay, as he pushed the girl named Buffy back off of him. "I would’ve had another name for ya." Jay lunged towards Buffy tried to stab the girl with the stake, but she grabbed Jay’s shoulder and pushed herself up into the air and ended up slamming Jay down to the ground.
"Oh." Buffy pulled out her remaining stake and turned towards Jay. "Too bad I won’t be able to hear it." Buffy shot towards Jay and was about to take out the vampire when the teen grabbed a large rock the lay right next to him and placed it over his heart. The stake hit the rock and the stake shattered into pieces.
He hurled the rock at the stunned Buffy and it hit her face, forcing her to stumble backwards. Jay quickly rolled away and shot back up onto his feet, holding up his dagger-like stake and eyed Buffy for a moment. "What are you? Some kind of loud mouth demon- because you are pretty strong for a girl your size."
"Look who’s talking." Buffy rubbed her face, which had a nasty bruise on it from the rock Jay had thrown. "Well, there’s more than one way to take out a vampire, isn’t that right?"
"Oh, about the name." Jay put his stake back in his pouch as Buffy began to get near Jay. "I was pretty close on it. Though, I was thinking of somethin’ else with a ‘b’."
"Oh!" Buffy quickly darted towards Jay and kicked him in the stomach, sending Jay flying back and slamming into a tree. Buffy quickly turned towards a tree branch and snapped it off.
"Hey!" shouted Jay, as he pulled out his stake again. "I wasn’t thinking that." Jay got up and spun his dagger around, so that the tip of the stake was facing outward and away from him and pointed it towards Buffy. "It was more like bleached blonde."
Buffy and Jay quickly moved in towards each other, and Buffy’s tree branch wasn’t strong enough and Jay’s stake split through the sad excuse for a weapon, and one of the remains of the stake ended up stabbing Jay in the hand.
"First off, bleached? No!" Buffy reared her fist back and punched Jay in the face and sent the vampire hurling backwards and slammed into the tree, causing it to begin to crack and begin to bend over, but Buffy’s strength and Jay’s force wasn’t enough to knock it down. "Second off, ow! Third, I’m not a demon." Buffy felt around on the ground for a moment with her foot and then kicked up one of her stakes and sent it soaring up to her hands. "I’m the Slayer."
"Slayer?" growled Jay for a moment. " . . . Slayer." Jay roared for a moment and shook his head, slowly regaining control of his demonic half.
"Yes," said Buffy, "the Slayer. Ya know, the Slayer of Vampires. You want me to say it a little slower?" Buffy quickly darted at Jay again, who had already pulled himself from against the tree he had cracked.
"So, you’re the infamous Buffy Summers, the renowned Slayer of Vampires," replied Jerrold, now completely human again, slowly, rubbing the back of his head and pulling the remains of Buffy’s "stake" from out of his hand.
"Whoa, I’m famous now," said Buffy sarcastically, as she punched Jerrold in the stomach again and then knocked him in the face with her elbow.
"In that case, why are we fighting?" Jerrold slowly drew back his stake and place it back in his pouch. "We’re on the same side, Slayer, though from the way you act and talk, I seriously doubt it."
"Same side, now that’s funny. A vampire on my side." Buffy quickly ran towards Jerrold but before she could even touch him, Jerrold turned to his side and kicked Buffy in her stomach, sending Buffy flying upwards and backwards into the night air and she slammed into a gravestone not too far off.
Jerrold dropped his stake and fell to his knees, panting and panting, trying to catch his breath. "Gee, that was fun." Jerrold suddenly jerked his head up as he heard someone approaching him. He let his face slowly mold back into its twisted, demonic, vampire side and was about to spin around when he felt someone tackle him in his side.
Chapter Two
Suddenly, a tall, white, bleached-hair vampire emerged from behind a tree, quickly rushing Jay, slamming the vampire to the ground. This vampire looked strangely familiar to Jerrold, but for some reason was appearing to help the Slayer.
"Hey kid, isn’t it passed your bed time?" growled the vampire, as he loomed over Jay and started to pull out a stake.
"First off, why do people keep on asking me that?" Jay, who was still on the ground, shot out his leg and swung around, kicking the vampire in the back of the knee, forcing the vampire to topple over down on the ground. "Second, not a kid!" Jay quickly got up and drew out his dagger-like stake. "Shame, one too many bleached blondes tonight."
"Hey!" growled Spike in disgust, grabbing his bleached hair. "My sodding hairs are white!"
"These are not bleached!" Suddenly, Jay felt the energy and the full force of a powerful kick slam into his back, and sent Jay flying passed the white-hair vampire and landed several feet in front of him. Behind Jay was Buffy, holding her hair and glaring at angrily at Jerrold. "Usually, I wouldn’t let Spike have any fun, but you are really beginning to bug me. Spike, do whatever you want to the vampire."
"Oh, you two were fightin’ it out?" The vampire, who Buffy had called Spike, slowly rose up and started wiping the dirt and dust off of his jacket. "In that case, I might as well be leavin’ then. Let you two fight it out and see who wins the lil match."
"Oh," mumbled Jay, as he slowly started to regain control over his demonic side, which had temporarily gained control when the vampire started attacking him. He swiftly reverted back to Jerrold. "I see. So you let the bleached vampire help you out and you won’t stake him, while I’m fighting off two vampires on my own time and I ended up your prime target."
"The vamp talks too much." Spike picked up his stake from the ground and held it over Jerrold. "And he was such a lil’ vamp too. Shame really."
"Yeah, shame." Jerrold quickly grabbed his stake from the ground and lunged towards Spike, jabbing the dagger-like stake into Spike’s side. He hadn’t aimed towards Spike’s heart, but he hit the vampire in a good place.
Jerrold tried to pull out his stake, but it was stuck and wouldn’t come out of the vampire. This left an opening for Spike. So, the vampire held out his left hand to hold down the little vampire, while it tried to take a swing at him with his other arm. Unfortunately . . .
"I’m good with torture and stuff," said Jerrold, as Spike tried to take a swing at the teen with his dislocated arm. "Plus, I’ve been trapped in school for awhile, so I know about bones and stuff." Jerrold continued to try to pull it out and shrugged. He knocked away Spike’s right arm and then punched Spike in the chest, sending him flying backwards towards Buffy. "Sorry, Spike."
Buffy chuckled as she pulled the stake out of Spike’s arm. She held it up and examined it for a moment. "It looks like . . . a dagger or a short sword or something."
"What the bleeding hell?" Spike looked up at the weapon and stared at it for a moment. He closed his eyes for a moment and had a brief flash of a familiar weapon that had a metal hand, and a thin and sharp, wooden blade. "That stake looks . . . too familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it." Spike slowly rose up as Jerrold stood firm, waiting for the vampire to approach him. "Whatever you are, you’re not stayin’ here for long, mate."
"Spike, was it?" Jerrold began shaking his head again and chuckling, as the older vampire snarled with disgust. "Hmmm, how interesting. I knew a Spike once. He seemed a little stronger than you, though. And would’ve never sided with a Slayer."
"Bye-bye lil’ bit!" Spike released a deep roar and quickly lunged towards Jerrold and tackled the kid. As he hit Jerrold, a surge of pain rushed through Spike’s head and charged through his skull, cringed with all the pain and collapsed on the ground.
Jerrold slammed into the ground and skidded away from Buffy and Spike. Both vampires began moaning in pain as they lay helplessly on the ground.
"What’s going on?" Buffy slowly glanced at Spike and gave him a curious look. "I thought you could harm vampires, even if they look like humans."
"I can," growled Spike angrily as his face slowly returned to normal. "This lil’ vamp ain’t no normal vampire though."
Jerrold quickly pulled himself up and glanced around, looking at the injured Spike and Buffy, who was holding his stake. "Hey . . . that’s not yours."
"Boohoo," replied Buffy, as she took the dagger and placed it on her belt. "Should I care. Now, there’s two of us, and one of you. Leave."
"It’s . . . you." Spike slowly looked up at Jerrold and chuckled as he turned his head. "Look a tad bit different though, Jay, if it really is you." Spike growled as Jerrold slowly turned away from him. "Get back here Jay!"
Spike began to get up, when Buffy stood over him and raised up her foot, and slammed Spike to the ground. "There’s something different about this vampire, because you obviously can’t hurt him." Buffy slowly released her foot from off of Spike and shook her head. "Move, and I’ll kick the unholy crap out of you, Spike."
"If you don’t stop him now-" Spike began, but Buffy interrupted him, by punching Spike in the head, slamming his forehead into the ground, knocking out the vampire. All Spike managed to mumble before he blacked out was "damn."
"Who are you?" ordered Buffy, as she stood over Spike and glared at Jerrold. "Jay, is it?"
"Jerrold," he corrected. He turned away. "I’m sorry Slayer, but you don’t want to get caught up with me and my problems."
"But, I have your stake!" shouted Buffy, as Jerrold began walking away.
"Congrats," replied Jerrold flatly, as he continued to move through the Sunnydale cemetery. "I can make a new one." He held up his hand and waved good-bye. "We’re both too tired to do anything, and you don’t know what I’m capable of. Good luck with Spike and see ya around Slayer. We’ll finish this another time."
Buffy glared angrily as Jerrold, the strange, young, teenage vampire, walked away from the Slayer, who only remained with the dagger-like stake and Spike beneath her foot. "Great."
* * * *
"Ow, my head." Spike slowly started to come back to consciousness slowly bobbing his head up and down. Spike began to glance around as he peered around at a familiar group: Buffy, and of course her Watcher, Giles. Spike snorted as he began to get up, but as he did, he slowly realized he couldn’t move a muscle. He was strapped down to a chair in Giles’s home. "Dammit, how many times are ya gonna time me up, Slayer."
"As much as we love you in my home, Spike," growled Giles angrily as he began to pull something from out of his pocket, "this visit is of some importance, if I do say so myself."
Spike rolled his eyes as he began to lean back in his chair. "Whatever. What could you possibly do to hurt-" Spike growled and hissed as Giles pulled out a cross from out of his pocket, and Buffy held up a small glass container. "A cross . . . and holy water, what a show this’ll be. How many ways can we burn ol’ Spike till he tells us what we need to know?" Buffy gave an innocent smile as she popped off the top.
Buffy glanced at Giles and shook her head. "I don’t see this going anywhere. Spike obviously would rather burn a long and painful death, then tell us alittle about our friend we bumped into tonight."
"You mean Jay?" Spike snorted. "It should actually be fun to tell you what I have to know, because you won’t believe me."
"Oh, and why is that?" asked Buffy curiously as she moved in towards Spike, pulling out Jerrold’s stake. "Or maybe I’ll just do you, here and now."
Spike blinked several times and then rolled his eyes. "Yeah, right. Like you’d do that. Stake your info, so you have bloody nowhere to go with your lil’ case." Spike waited as Buffy slowly moved away from him and snorted. "Besides, the vamp I’m thinkin’ of was dusted years ago."
Giles pulled away from Buffy and wandered to his bookshelf. "Explain Spike, so I could possibly find some reference to this vampire Buffy was speaking of."
"Yeah," said Buffy, "how is it that you know every single evil vampire in the ‘old country’ Spike? Dru, Darla, Ang-" Buffy momentarily halted herself as she began to speak of her ex, Angel, the vampire with a soul. She quickly caught herself and continued, "and now this, Jay." She backed up and sat down on the couch across from Spike. "And what is it with these short names anyways?"
"The ‘Jay’ I’m referring to was called many things," said Spike, "apparently he’s called Jerrold name, probably some connection with his past or somethin’. He thought he was a bad-ass vampire, for a kid, and he joined up with me and Drusilla after Darla went back with the Master and Angel was off saving someone here ‘n there."
"So, this Jay was an evil vampire," asked Giles.
"Sorta." Spike shrugged. "He was no Angel . . . well, he was sorta an Angel in a way. He had a soul, he was a vampire, yada, yada, but there was a bit more to Jay than just a soul and all that."
"What else?" asked Buffy slowly. She got up and slowly paced around Spike. "What else could a vampire earn than his soul?"
"Well," said Spike, "Jay wasn’t very talkative about his past. He said that mostly everyone he had known had died, or had believed that Jay was in fact dead himself." Spike shrugged. "Jay was born from a girl named Lena, the Slayer at that time. Lena was never actually impregnated, gypsies cursed her and she produced Jay, a vamp-kid who was human by day, vampire by night sorta thing."
"That all Spike," replied Buffy, as she put her hands on Spike’s shoulders, and dug her hands into his shoulders.
"Ow, ow!" roared Spike in pain as Buffy slowly released him. "Sod off Slayer! I’m telling ya what you want ta know!"
"Actually, no you haven’t Spike." Buffy spun Spike around in the chair. "Tell me what’s so special about this Jay, and why your chip activated when you punched him."
"I told you that already!" roared Spike. "Jay’s half and half! He can switch between being a vampire and being a human!"
"Now, I’m confused." Giles turned away from his book and glanced up towards Spike. "Buffy, you said that Jay stated that he was fighting vampires before, doing good, almost helping you. But you Spike said that Jay wandered around with you and your Drusilla for a while. He appears to be completely good now . . . but completely evil back then."
"Would you just let me speak!" growled Spike. "Once Jay gets old enough, he eventually understood his power well enough to control it. Before Dru and I bumped into the lil’ vamp, it was said that Jay was doin’ good by killing demons and other nasties. But, he was totally warped when he met me, and he joined up with me and my Dru until he was captured at one point. Never heard from him again until I got word that he was burned down to the ground. Course, knowin that lil’ vamp, Jay got away."
"So you’re saying, Jay can be good if he wants to, and evil if he wants to." Buffy sighed and spun Spike around in the chair and slowly walked towards Giles. "That sounds perfect, the absolute and most dependable vampire ever." She glanced back at Spike and replied, "Jay sounds almost as reliable at Spike over there."
"And you’re sure Jay was eventually killed, correct Spike?" asked Giles.
"Yes, yes," said Spike. "Eventually, I heard rumors from Darla that she had a run in with Jay, and she saw him get dusted." Spike shook his head. "Jay and this Jerrold may be connected a tad bit, but I don’t think they’re one."
"A clone?" suggested Buffy. "Or a robot or something?
"Not even." Giles opened up a book and placed it down on the table and Buffy rushed over towards it. He pointed at a picture on the page of a vampire. "Did he look like this."
"No . . ." Buffy glanced up at Giles and asked, "Jay, as in J-A-Y."
"Actually, I was hoping it was a no," answered Giles.
"Oh." Buffy fell silent as she sat down. "Why?"
Giles sighed. "Simple. It says here that Jay, the cursed vampire or the Doomed Vampire. One thing that Spike failed to mention was that Jay’s spirit was immortal, and it would live on and on, being brought back in a different body each time."
"So?" replied Spike, as Buffy and Giles turned towards him. "What! I didn’t bloody know about an immortal soul. It’s not like I studied Jay or nuttin, he just helped me out once or twice."
Giles rolled his eyes and turned around, and began reading again. "It also says, that Jay’s spirit remembers all of his past memories once he reaches a certain age and understanding of his powers, and would be able to revive his powers if he was ever forced back into a vampire body." He turned to Buffy and said, "That’s why it doesn’t matter that this Jerrold you bumped into isn’t the same as the Jay in this picture."
"So, some kid gets vampired and becomes this Jay again?" Buffy shook her head. "Doesn’t sound believable to me. If he has all of the original Jay’s memories, then he should be smart even to avoid being a vampire again. Besides, if he wanted to be a vampire, he could’ve become one awhile ago."
"Yes, I believe you’re right," said Giles slowly. "Whoever did this, purposely resurrected Jay in a vampire body."
"That wouldn’t work!" shouted Spike. "You said that his spirit was in a different body each time. He’d have to have a fresh body, a new born kid, because he can’t just kick out someone’s soul, even in a vampire."
"So, you’re saying that who ever brought back Jerrold had some sort of magicks and put him into some sort of mutated child, that would be born of a vampire?" said Giles.
"What’d ya think I said, bifocals?" Spike began rocking and forth in his chair, and eventually broke the legs of the chair and Spike fell flat on his butt on a broken chair. "Can I go now?"
"Can we really be sure this is Jay?" asked Buffy. "How do we know it’s not his successor or something- like a clone or a double, or just a bad fan of Jay."
"Well, we can’t," said Giles, "unless we meet up with him again. And we can’t even be sure he’ll be on our side and won’t kill us or something."
"Positive thinking Giles." Buffy held up the dagger-like stake she had taken from Jerrold and pointed it at Spike. "Besides, we have two clues that could link us to Jay."
Chapter Three
Jerrold moaned as he wobbled down his street in Sunnydale, attempting to reach his flat. After his encounter with the Slayer and the vampire known as Spike, it had left Jerrold pretty weak and exhausted. He was also attempting to control his demonic side would could easily slip out when he was this weak.
He had recognized Spike from awhile back, when he was in his original body. Spike was a vampire that had traveled with Angelus, Darla, and Drusilla, a group of vampires that had rampaged around the world. He had met up with Spike and Drusilla after Angelus’s soul had been revived and Darla had returned to the Master.
But back then, Jerrold was lost and confused and Spike and Drusilla had taken advantage of that.
Jerrold opened his door and crawled up the stairs. After a long time of dragging himself through his small flat, Jerrold made it to his bed and quickly passed out.
* * * *
Jerrold usual awoke to a streaming beam of sunlight on his face from a nearby window, but as Jerrold opened his eyes, a shadow loomed over him. He moaned and rolled over when a strong arm grabbed his shoulder and pulled him up.
"Hello Jerrold." He froze in horror as a huge, hairy, beastly creature loomed over the vampire. It appeared to be a werewolf that was attacking him.
"Werewolf?" Jerrold rolled his eyes and punched the werewolf in the stomach and sent it flying upward. It slammed into the ceiling and then dropped down to the floor next to Jerrold’s bed. "Hello Isis." Jerrold rolled over to the side of the bed and there was a thin, frail, gray-colored demon laying on the floor.
Isis was a metamorphic demon. She had the ability to transform into different demons after draining the blood out of the creature, and absorbing its DNA to transform into the creature. Her original form was a pale, skinny, almost featureless, human-like demon. Isis could also transform into humans as well as demons, so she would be able to conceal her true nature.
Ever since he came back to Sunnydale, Jerrold had been trying to redeem himself by helping out people and killing vampires and other demons from time to time. Isis was his informant in Sunnydale. She’d give him missions and info on demons, even though often times the missions were extremely risky- suicidal missions some would say. Though Jerrold had a difficult time attempting to avoid Isis because oddly enough, Isis attended the same school in Sunnydale as Jerrold.
"What do you want?" ordered Jerrold getting out of his bed and stepping over Isis.
The demon chuckled as she rose up. She had transformed into a Caucasian, blue eyed, long blonde hair, girl. Isis smirked as Jerrold glanced back at her to see that her previous transformation had rendered her rather naked. She gave an entertaining smirk as Jerrold rolled his eyes and turned away.
Jerrold kept on walking and came back a split second later to throw some clothes in Isis’s direction.
"Thank you Jay," said Isis from the other room, as Jerrold waited outside for Isis to come out.
"What do you want?" repeated Jerrold again.
Isis smirked as she walked out in one of Jerrold’s white shirts and one of his blue jeans. "Well, that’s kinda rude, ain’t it Jay?"
"The name’s Jerrold," corrected the half-vampire slowly.
"Jay, Jerrold, whatever works for you." Isis suddenly grabbed Jerrold by the neck and hurled him backwards and it slammed into a table that was sitting at the foot of his stairs in his flat.
"Silly Isis." Jerrold quickly jumped back up, but he had changed from his human form to his demonic, with his fangs hanging out and his face turned and twisted. He quickly darted towards Isis, but she drew back her arm and punched Jay in the chest, sending him soaring backwards again, slamming and cracking the wall.
"He’ll be feeling that tomorrow." Isis smirked as she walked towards the injured Jay as he tried to pull himself upward. "Actually, I came to warn you Jay."
"’Bout what?" asked Jay, slowly getting up.
"The Slayer, I would advice you to stay away from her," said Isis slowly. "Miss Summers isn’t a person who you want to get mixed up in when you’re a vampire."
"That all?" asked Jay as he got on his feet and began walking away from Isis and heading towards his bathroom.
"Actually, no." Isis threw some papers on the floor and Jay spun around. "Some interesting news actually, about your little government home." Isis nodded as she continued walking forward. "Additionally, you may be in for a little shock because . . . you’re late."
"Late . . ." Jay stared at Isis for a moment as his face slowly changed back to his human form. He turned around and quickly walked into his kitchen. A second later, Isis heard a loud shout as he came bustling out of the kitchen.
"Yeah," said Isis, as she continued smirking and Jerrold quickly ran passed her. "Don’t want to be late for summer school . . . again."
* * * *
Both Jerrold and the transforming demon, Isis, went to Sunnydale’s Junior High School for summer school. Jerrold and Isis had various problems during the school year that prevented them from graduating, so they were forced to take part in summer school for several weeks.
Jerrold had to participate in schooling because he was with parents often, and he was considered human for the most part by average people, so Jerrold needed to learn just like everyone else. Isis had two main reasons why she chose to attend school. "Isis," the human girl who the demon often appeared as, was originally a girl from Sunnydale, so people knew her as someone else, and Isis had to continue her act at this girl, or possibly get slain by Sunnydale’s Slayer. Additionally, Isis preferred to remain known as a human, oppose to a demon, so Isis went to school to truly understand the ways humans think and act.
Though, neither Jerrold and Isis were all too thrilled about having to go to summer school three times a week.
Jerrold and Isis were trapped with the same ten other eighth graders everyday, so they were forced to revisit their horrid junior high school experiences everyday, until they were able to leave summer school and consider themselves officially high schoolers.
Moving quickly out of the annoyingly bad school, Jerrold attempted to exit the area before he bumped into any of his teachers or bump into Isis again. Jerrold had managed to exit the school and was simply heading towards the bus stop.
As he rushed towards the bus stop, knowing that his bus was actually coming up. He rushed passed various people who went to his school, who were heading to the bus themselves or were heading to the mall or heading home, when suddenly Jerrold froze as he felt a chill run down his spine.
Jerrold glanced around, checking to see if Isis was around because she often gave the half-vampire that god-awful feeling. But Isis was anywhere in sight. Something else had caused it.
Then, the cursed vampire felt some weird sensation surge through him and he began stumbling around. Jerrold managed to stumble into a tree, and he moaned as he leaned back against it. Concealed by the shade, the strange sensation suddenly took over and Jerrold’s demonic side suddenly appeared on the human’s face.
Although he was partly covered by the shade of the tree, the heat and curse of the deadly sun started to take affect, as Jay’s skin quickly started to smoke. If he stayed out there for too long, he’d quickly break out into flames.
Jay clinched his eyes and began shaking his head, and he quickly regained control over his vampire side. Jerrold glanced up to see if anyone had seen the brief ordeal, and no one was really watching, but the teen moaned as he watched his fastest source of transportation leave.
"Damn," growled Jerrold angrily, as he stepped out from the tree and watched his bus drive away. He glanced back and moaned as he noticed Isis exiting the school and quickly spotting the vampire. "This is not going to be my day . . ."
As Jerrold turned away from his school, as well as Isis, he began walking away and heard the deadly metamorphic demon began shouting for him to slow down. But, neither the cursed vampire nor the transforming demon noticed the strange, pale-hair, fanged beast hiding up in the tree.
A pleased demonic smirk covered the strange creature’s face and nodded, as it watched Jerrold quickly walk away.
* * * *
Side by side with the bleached-hair vampire, the renowned Slayer made her way throughout the small town of Sunnydale, attempting to discover and find the whereabouts of the cursed vampire Jay. Though it was her usual patrolling hours, the Slayer’s detective allies, known as the "Scoobies," were watching the cemetery for vampire attacks. Though, after the destruction of the Initiative, there weren’t any large gangs or large active happening recently.
"So," said the de-fanged Spike, as he moved behind Buffy, "do you even have a bloody clue about what your tryin’ to do Slayer?"
"Yes Spike," muttered Buffy, in a somewhat annoyed voice, acting like she was talking to a kid or to a little sibling or something. "And your constant rambles- not helping."
"Whatever Slayer," murmured Spike, "but the point is that this little stake and my key knowledge of our lil’ vamp ain’t gonna get you ta Jay."
Buffy swiveled around towards Spike and drew out Jay’s dagger-like stake. "Fine then, Spike. What’s gonna get me ta Jay?"
Spike shrugged. "How the bloody hell would I know- All I know is that we ain’t gonna find Jay here by just searchin around Sunnydale."
Buffy sighed and stopped walking. She dropped Jay’s stake and glanced around. "You’re right."
"What?" Spike stumbled forward in utter confusion, but quickly drew himself back up with a startled look on his face. "You all right Slayer? You’re not makin’ any sense. I’m right?"
"We have no clues that link us directly to Jay." She picked up the small dagger-like stake and began tossing it up into the air. "This stake would be great if it were a one of a kind thing. But this ‘Jay’ could make as many stakes as he wants."
Spike shrugged. "Tough luck love." Spike swiveled around and began walking away from Buffy. "I guess that means I can leave-"
Suddenly, a vampire dropped down from a house above Spike and Buffy and landed right in front of the tainted vampire.
"Oh goody, I thought this night was gonna be a bore." Spike swiftly drew out a stake from beneath his sleeves and lunged towards the vampire. Spike’s stake quickly dropped into his hands and ended up jabbing the demonic creature in the chest, and quickly drew it out, waiting for the vampire to turn to dust . . . but it remained unharmed.
The vampire chuckled and shook his head. "You can’t harm me with a stake."
Buffy quickly drew out her stake and shoved Spike out of the way, and then jumped up in the air and kicked the vampire to the ground. Pinned to the ground by Buffy, the vampire remained helpless as she attempted to stake the vampire. After staking it multiple times, she groaned in annoyance, as the remained a stable, undusted, vampire with multiple staked marks.
"I hate to ask this, though you’ll probably tell me anyways," said Buffy, as she quickly drew her stake out of the vampire and backed away, "what the hell!"
"It’s a metamorphic demon of some sorts," answered Spike, as he walked forward towards the vampire, as he rose up from the ground. "That’s why our stakes didn’t dust the demon."
"I can only be killed by specific slicing and dicing," explained the vampire, as he began shaking his head. Suddenly, the tall vampire shrunk down into a blonde girl, which looked like she was around 14 or 15. "Staking me isn’t one of the options- even if I look like a vampire." The girl held out her hand. "The name’s Isis."
Buffy snorted. "You want something. What is it?"
Isis shook her head and turned away. "I am hurt! I introduce myself to the one and only Slayer and she turns me away like that. Hmph! And I didn’t even want anything." Isis looked down at the ground and began digging the toe of her shoe in the ground. "All I wanted to do is help . . ."
"Listen, I don’t get help from demons," replied Buffy.
Isis gave a skeptical look as she glanced over at Spike, who was looming over the Slayer’s shoulder.
"Well, except for Spike," murmured Buffy, "but he can’t hurt people, cause he has a chip . . . and Angel, but he had a soul. Course, I did get help from other demons, but there was usually payment or hostages involved." Buffy glanced at the metamorphic demon for a moment and asked, "Why?"
"You’re hunting down Jay, right?" Isis smiled. "Jay and I are tight, we’re really close, and I utterly despise him."
Spike exchanged a skeptical look at Buffy and then turned to Isis. "Well love, if ya hate Jay so much, then why are the two of you so ‘tight’ as you say young one?"
"Payment," answered Isis.
Buffy exchanged a skeptical look at Spike this time and then raised a curious eyebrow at Isis. "Payment?"
"Actual payment, like money," explained Isis. "Not like . . . that."
"Oh! Kinda like what I do with Spike." Buffy smirked and slapped Spike on the back, forcing the chip-wearing vampire to stumble forward. "He does stuff for money too."
"Ow!" growled Spike, as he rubbed his back. "Am I even gonna get any money this time?"
Buffy glanced away from Spike and back towards Isis. "That’s besides the point. What do you know about Jay?"
"Jay," said Isis, "also known as Jerrold Irvine Smith, that’s his human persona. He use to live with some people, but I think he killed them, I’m not sure. Anyways, he’s moving away once he’s done with school- if he doesn’t slaughter his school first." Isis shrugged and turned around, beginning to walk away. "I guess you all don’t care, huh?"
Isis continued to walk away, and as she did she felt a strong arm grab her shoulder and slam her against the wall of the building she had jumped off of. "Ow! Rough and tough, eh Slayer?"
"She’s spunky," replied Spike with a grin on his face. "I like her."
The young blonde "girl" smiled and nodded. "Thanks, I’ll remember." She gave the demonic creature a wink and a pleased look.
Buffy glanced at Spike and then at Isis with disgust. "I’m just gonna ignore that, and ask about our little vampire. Where is he?"
"I’m not sure about tonight, but as of tomorrow Jay’s gonna be hunting down a vampire nest," explained Isis. "They have some sort of connection with the Initiative."
"The Initiative?" repeated Spike. "As in mad scientists doin’ their little mojo experiments on helpless demons, such as myself, Initiative?"
Isis chuckled and quickly began cracking up. "You are Spike, right? Spike as in William the Bloody, right? Two Slayers killed Spike?" Isis continued cracking up and began to slide down to the ground, cracking up. "And the Initiative got to you!"
"Can’t hurt any living person," replied Buffy. "But you said these vampires have some sort of connection with the Initiative?"
"Huh, interesting eh?" A satisfied smirk appeared on Spike’s face. "And the same weekend Riley goes off to this little ol’ government meetin’ thing. How odd."
"Shut up Spike." Buffy turned away from the white-hair vampire and back to the metamorphic demon. "So why exactly are you giving us this information?"
"Jay’s a bad man, possibly killing likely customers for me," explained Isis. "Besides, he’s just really beginning to bug me, so I’m thinking I’m just doing the world a load of good."
Spike snorted and rolled his eyes. "Yeah right."
"Well then welcome to the fold- temporarily anyways." Buffy put her arm around Isis’s shoulder and pushed her forward and they began walking away from Spike. "How much you want?"
"I’d say whatever you have," replied Isis, "but I feel I shouldn’t be paid to help you rid this place of Jerrold."
Spike’s eyes widened and stomped his foot. "Dear lord! What is she, high or somethin! A metamorphic demon, speaking of being ‘good’ is as likely as me being a bloody good guy." Spike glared at Buffy and Isis as they walked away, leaving Spike in the shadows. Spike’s face briefly transformed into its twisted, demonic, vampire look and growled and snarled at Isis as she walked away. Spike shook his head and his face returned to his human-like features. "She’s hiding something . . ."
Chapter Four
Jerrold stared down into the building below him as he watched activity bustle about as he prepared to attack. Aside from Isis, Jerrold had many demonic connections throughout Sunnydale, that luckily the Slayer knew nothing about. Mostly Jerrold had been looking into stuff that had some sort of connection with the Initiative, but this was shutting down a small business of vampires that the Slayer had yet to hear about. And this, along with various other things, would hopefully create a good name for Jerrold in Sunnydale, so he wouldn’t have any troubling run-ins with people like Buffy and Spike.
Jerrold wasn’t often found fighting demons that were armed very well, so he didn’t take their weapons after he has slain them. So, poor Jerrold was armed with holy water, several crosses, two stakes (one hidden under his sleeve), and a "staff" (staff meaning thin, long wooden pole).
"This should be fun," murmured Jerrold as he observed the vampires huddling in the building. "There’s about . . . seven of them, and one of me. Me, being one half-vampire armed with some weak ass weapons . . ." Jerrold placed his crosses around his neck, and grabbed his staff and his stake to get ready for the battle. His holy water was in a pouch on his side, and he hoped that he could possibly start some sort of fire if it was necessary. "I’d like to see Miss Slayer try doing this . . . course, she’d probably have Spike or Angel or something . . ."
Jerrold’s staff was lowered to the ground and he kicked it, snapping off the tip of it so he could create a jagged edge for the vampires. "Besides, Isis said this guys might be somehow connected with the Initiative and the vampires I’m gonna search out later . . . so I’ll just stake a few of them and take on their leader or whatever."
Before Jerrold made another move, he watched one of the vampires for a moment to choose his first target. As he watched the guy vampire, Jerrold’s face slowly twisted into its demonic shape, and his eyes quickly turned a dark red and his fangs appeared from his mouth. Jerrold had become Jay, the deadly vampire half of the spirit turned human. "This should be . . . fun."
Jay quickly backed up from the edge of the building, keeping an eye on the vampire targets and quickly ran at full speed off of the ledge and towards the vampire nest.
The cursed vampire flew through the air and went from the roof of a tall building, through the window of a small vampire nest. As Jay broke through the shattered window, he quickly hurled his broken staff at one of the vampires, staking it with the jagged edge, and then landing in front of a vampire and swiftly stabbing it with a stake.
Both vampires froze for a moment, attempting not to move in hope that they wouldn’t crumble into dust, but they couldn’t deny the inevitable and quickly broke apart into a storm of dust, leaving the other five vampires stunned.
"Ah, so you must be Jay." The half-vampire half-human quickly spun around and there was three other vampires, two armed with swords and another armed with an axe. The one with the axe was obviously their leader, but unfortunately his staff and stake wouldn’t be enough to stop a sword and an axe.
"Damn," murmured Jay, as he froze in horror when he realized that he was soon to be surrounded. "This hasn’t been a good week." Jay quickly dived for his staff, that had been driven into the ground when he had hurled it at the vampire, and grabbed it before any of the unarmed vampires could use it against him. Jay quickly jumped up from the ground and pointed the jagged staff at the unarmed vampires as they quickly got near him.
"Oh, a long, pointy, stake," replied one of the female vampires in the group. "I’m scared."
"I got more tricks up my sleeve," murmured Jay, as he continued backing up until he bumped into the wall. "Damn."
The female vampire growled with entertainment as she quickly grabbed one of the smaller vampires that was standing next to her and shoved him at Jay.
Quickly reacting defensively, Jay hurled the staff at the vampire, staking it and dropped the staff several feet in front of the vampire in a pile of dust. Jay’s strongest weapon was now out of reach.
"I believe the phrase was, ‘damn,’" mocked the female vampire, as she and the other two vampires made their way towards Jay, though the smaller vampires were slightly nervous of being hurled at Jay as the previous vampire was.
Jay froze in horror and unfortunately his vampiric side had slipped away and his petrified human face was staring down at the trio of vampires as they approached him. As they made their way over the small dust pile that had been the previous vampire, the female vamp grabbed the staff from out of the ground and pointed it towards Jerrold as they approached him.
"You know, there’s another way to settle this besides staking me," replied Jerrold slowly. "Besides . . . you stake me and then you kill the human me."
The female vampire smirked with pleasure. "Good . . . we can feed off you."
"No you won’t!" shouted the vampire that held the axe. "You kill Jerrold, you kill Jay. Our master needs Jay in order to complete his research on this test subject."
Jerrold remained silent, even though it was possible to kill Jerrold but not Jay. If he chose to, Jerrold could revert to his vampire state as he was dying, killing his human side and releasing a pure vampire. But he knew that by doing this, he’d unleash a demonic vampire that had Slayer strength.
"Fine," replied the female vampire, who still had a cruel smirk on her face, "this’ll just hurt like hell then."
The vampire suddenly lunged at Jerrold, not being followed by the unarmed vampires, and held the staff out towards Jerrold. The half-human half-vampire attempted to counter the incoming vampire with his stake, but the female vampire stabbed Jerrold’s left wrist, which was holding his stake, forcing him to drop it.
Worst of all, the staff sliced through Jerrold’s wrist, then through his right shoulder blade, pinning Jerrold to the wall.
"Arg!" roared Jerrold in pain, but quickly reacting.
Before the female vampire could do anything else, with a sharp, striking pain, and a deadly burning sensation, Jerrold revealed his additional stake that was hidden up the sleeve of his right arm. Jerrold swiftly plunged the stake through the vampire’s heart, quickly slaying the female vampire.
As the demonic creature crumbled to dust, Jerrold reached for the staff that was lodged through his arm and shoulder, and quickly pulled it out. Jerrold held up his hand to reveal a hole right below his wrist, as well as through his shoulder. The sight of blood and the hole, Jerrold’s eyes widened and he dropped to the ground.
The remaining two vampire lackeys roared with delight and quickly lunged towards Jerrold. The two vampires got onto of the half-human half-vampire and turned his body over and as they did, one roared in pain and jumped up. He had a burn mark that was in the shape of a cross on his hand.
Jerrold’s eyes quickly snapped opened and grabbed his pouch with his right hand and hurled the glass bottle of holy water at the unharmed vampire. The glass shattered as it hit the vampire’s face, burning the vampire with the blessed water.
Jerrold released a devilish smile and his face twisted and turned into his demonic form and punched the vampire, whose face had been burned, right on the nose and sent the vampire soaring backwards and slammed into the ground.
"Told ya I had something up my sleeve," murmured Jay, as he drew out his stake.
Jay quickly made his way to the vampire that had been burned by his cross and punched him hard in the face and the uppercut him in the got. As the vampire attempted to fight back, the angry, cursed vampire kicked the lesser vampire in the stomach, sending him flying backwards towards the three vampires that were armed with weapons.
"That was fun," replied Jay, as he watched the two harmed vampires attempt to scamper away.
But as the two vampire lackeys started to flee, the two vampires armed with swords went after them. They kicked the vampires to the ground and held them to the floor with their foot. They raised their swords up and sliced through the vampires’ neck, decapitating the creatures of the night and forcing them to explode into dust.
Jay felt dizzy once again, remembering that there was a hole in his arm and in his shoulder. He started to stumble and things began to become dizzy again, too blurry for Jay to make out what was happening. But he saw a large cloudy figure approach him.
He froze when his vision cleared to see the demonic face of a vampire holding up an axe and quickly swinging it at Jay’s head . . .

"Isis McCafery." The small blonde girl raised her hand as the teacher glanced up and checked her name off of the attendance list.
Isis glanced around the room, seeing every seat filled except for Jerrold’s seat. She knew that he’d probably go searching for vampires that had some sort of connection with the vampires he’d be hunting later tonight. But why had he not returned that morning.
"Jason O’Donnell . . . Michael Renee . . . Michelle Stevenson . . . Dominique Washington . . . Ryan Wright."
The four kids all raised their hands, and the teacher nodded. He glanced around the room once more and asked the students again, "Jerrold Irvine Smith has failed to contact the school about his absence, so does anyone know if he is coming in today?"
The teacher eyed Isis for a moment, knowing that Jerrold and her were rather close, but when Isis shook her head the teacher turned his attention towards Dominique. Jerrold and Dominique had a somewhat romantic relationship that previous school year, but due to some "problems" Jerrold was having, he decided it was best if they took somewhat of a break for a while, though but both deadly liked each other.
But Dominique shook her head too.
"All right class," said the teacher as he put the list on his desk and pulling out a piece of chalk, "let’s begin."
As the teacher turned around away from the class, Isis noticed Dominique hopping over into Jerrold’s empty seat, which was unfortunately for him, right next to Isis’s seat.
"Hey Isis," whispered Dominique eagerly, "if you really do know what’s going on, you can fill me in."
Isis shook her head again. "I haven’t the slightest idea what the hell happened to Ja-Jerrold." She shrugged and glanced around. "I talked to him yesterday after school, but he didn’t mention anything about leaving." Isis released an almost devilish smirk as she asked, "Dominique, any particular reason why you want to know what Jerrold’s doin?"
Dominique snorted and shook her head, pulling back away from Isis. "Uh- no. Why should I care what Jerrold’s doing . . ."
"Uh, girls." Both Dominique and Isis glanced up and their teacher, as well as several other students, had turned around and was watching them and waiting for them to shut up. The teacher cleared his throat and asked, "Isis, Dominique, may I continue talking now?"
Isis smiled and wittily replied, "You weren’t talking in the first place . . . you were writing on the blackboard."
The teacher simply glared at Isis and turned around, continuing writing on the blackboard.
"I don’t care what Jerrold’s doing, I’m just . . . curious," replied Dominique, brushing back her hair long brown hair. "Besides, you are the on that’s always hanging around him Isis."
"For business purposes only . . ." Before Dominique could imply anything, Isis quickly added, "And when I say business, I mean our working job- not that." Isis rubbed the back of her head and sighed. "Though . . . it would be nice to know where old Jerrold’s hiding these days . . ."
* * * *
"You know, it’s the funniest thing." Jerrold had finally come out of his deep unconsciousness, after being clubbed on the head by the other vampire’s axe. That same vampire was looming over him, while Jerrold was in a small cage with the sun beaming down on him. "I was waiting for the sun to come up so that it’d fry you . . . but the second the sun came through the window, you went from unconscious vampire to unconscious human."
"I revert to demon during the night and return to human during the day," mumbled Jerrold tiredly. "Though I’ve been able to take full control over my demonic side at all times . . . except possibly tonight and this small fluke early yesterday but . . ." Before Jerrold could continue talking, he suddenly felt a dizzy sensation and collapsed on the ground again.
The vampire chuckled. "Aw, you’re no fun when you’re all unconscious . . ."
Jerrold glanced up and glared angrily at the vampire and moaned. "I’m not unconscious . . . I’m just feeling a little bit light headed and not at my prime." He held up his hand to see his hand already healing. "I was stabbed through the arm and shoulder last time, jumped from the roof of a build, and why am I talking to the person who clubbed me and caged me." Jerrold groaned and simply rolled over on his other side, and there were the two vampires that were holding the swords from last night.
"Don’t you guys sleep during the day," muttered Jerrold.
The vampire that held the axe chuckled with amusement. "Well Jerrold, you’re one to talk. You probably can’t even sleep at night- too afraid ol’ Jay will pop out, huh?"
"Funny," replied to injured Jerrold. "You know my name, yet I don’t know yours."
The vampire, which was black and several years older than Jerrold, smirked with amusement once again. "Sure, why not. I mean, you’ll be dead in several hours." The vampire placed his axe over his should and turned away. "The name’s Damien."
"Damien what?" asked Jerrold slowly.
"Damien nothing," answered the vampire slowly. "Course, you could always call me Damien Hunt if you want. It’s a last name passed down to me through my sire, who passed it down through a chain of vampires. The original Damien Hunt was a vampire who hunted down the Slayer-"
"Lena," finished Jerrold slowly. "I’m familiar with her work." He glanced around for a moment, searching for his weapon.
"Uh, your stakes, crosses, and that sad excuse for a ‘staff’ you’re using have all been burned." Damien sighed and shook his head. "It’s a shame you don’t actually have any weapons . . . my axe and I would enjoy a little brawl."
Jerrold chuckled. "Who talks like that? ‘My axe’ and a ‘little brawl.’ Heh . . . aw, that’s good stuff."
Damien snorted and shook his head. "That was sure funny."
Jerrold shrugged. "Oh well, I can take a hint when it comes to sarcasm. Guess I’ve lost my humorous touch." Jerrold yawned and stretched out. "Oddly enough, kinda tired. Getting knocked out really takes a lot outta ya."
Damien nodded and waved his hands, and his two vampire lackeys quickly appeared next to the demon. "I would have to agree. I think it is time for you to have a long nap."
Damien snapped his fingers and the two vampires lunged at the cage, drawing forth their swords. They loomed over Jerrold’s cave and the turned their swords pointing upward and began hitting Jerrold with the butt of the sword until the half-vampire passed out again.
Chapter Five
"Finally. Are all you Slayers this late?" The metamorphic demon tapped her foot as Buffy Summers approached her.
Isis had been waiting for a half an hour at the meeting spot where she was suppose to meet Buffy, but she hadn’t shown up on time. Isis and Buffy were off to the center of the graveyard where they’d bump into Jerrold on his vampire hunt, if they hadn’t missed him already.
"Sorry," said Buffy as she came running in towards Isis. "I got caught up in some Slayer stuff."
"Ah yes, your little slaying pals," murmured Isis, as she pushed back against the tree she was leaning on. "What’s the about? I mean, bringing helpless people into the demonic mix is kinda dangerous."
"Allying myself with a demon is dangerous too." Buffy pulled out an axe and smirked. "I guess that means I should do a little chopping then."
Isis gave a nervous smile and backed up. "Okay, I get it: Don’t ask about. So sensitive you humans are." Isis held out her hand and began rubbing it, giving the universal signal for "give me money."
"I thought getting Jay was payment enough," replied Buffy, eyeing Isis for a moment.
Isis frowned. "I was just being courteous." Isis glanced at Buffy’s stake and then eyed her for a moment. "That all you got?"
"Don’t you have weapons?" Buffy asked curiously. "Or do your other forms serve as a weapon?"
"Usually they do," replied Isis, "but vampires have been known to often kill the various demons I can transform into . . . so I prefer to be armed with actual weapons . . ."
Buffy sighed and pulled out a crossbow. "Do we need more weapons?"
"Probably," murmured Isis, "unless you want Jay and his vamp pals to have killed out local Slayer." Isis smirked and then shook her head. "Well, you’d probably be dead. I am very good at faking my own death in various forms-"
"Fine, I get your point. I have weapons at my house." Buffy glared at Isis, who released a satisfied and contentfully smirk as Buffy released another sight of annoyance. "Gotta love the demon help. You can come with if you want . . . you’d probably know what we should kill Jay with."
Isis nodded. "This better not take too long . . ."

After knocking Jerrold out several times, the two vampires had finally knocked Jerrold out for a good long while before the sun had set, when they’d head out to the graveyard to meet their boss. Originally the vamps were going to go out to feed and recruit new vampires, then the next night they’d go in search of Jerrold and bring him to their master’s servant.
Luckily, Jerrold had come to them the night before and now they could quickly deliver Jerrold and commence with their master’s plan.
The vampires parked their truck on the outer rim of the graveyard where they’d bring the caged Jerrold to their master’s servant. The two vampire lackeys began hauling the cage that held the Jerrold, who had reverted back to Jay now that it was night, while Damien led them towards the meeting location.
Unfortunately, Jay and his cage were quite tough to haul around, so the two vampires were having kinda of a tough time. Plus, they couldn’t make too much noise since various vampires and other demons knew about the meeting and how much Jay was worth to many other people- being undead or permanently dusted.
After five minutes of walking, and their truck was still in sight, Damien swiveled around in frustration and stamped his foot into the ground. "What the hell is taking you idiotic vampires so long to move this damn cage!"
"S-s-sorry boss," shouted the two vampires in unison.
"Quiet down you idiots!" growled Damien angrily, quickly rushing towards them. "If other vampires catch wind of what we’re doing, they’ll kill us and take Jay for themselves!"
"This vamp’s kinda heavy and this cage weighs a lot so-" Before the male vampire lackey could finish, Damien lunged towards the vampire and punched it in the face, forcing it to stumble backwards and drop the cage on Damien’s foot.
Damien glared at the vampire as it began scampering away before Damien could kill him. "Just be glad that this cage is on my foot . . . because I’d probably have to kill ya." Damien bent down and lifted up the cage with no problem. "Now, does this look so hard?"
The lackey, who was quivering at this point, shook his head and quickly grabbed the cage so Damien could let go.
"Good," replied Damien. Damien stared at the two vampires and began tapping his foot and snapped his fingers. "Today would be nice demons!"
As the two vampires began carrying the cage towards Damien they suddenly froze and drop the cage.
"Is that damn thing that heavy?" growled Damien angrily.
The female vampire lackey shook her head. "Damien . . . Look behind ya."
"Huh?" Damien swiveled around and a twisted, demonic, human face was staring him right in the face. A smile spread across the vampire’s face and he punched Damien in the head, sending him soaring backwards. Damien slammed into a tree and quickly dropped to the ground.
A tall vampire, accompanied by three other vampires, stood behind where Damien had been before he’d been hurled several feet. They had been waiting for them and hoped that they’d have Jay with them.
"You guys are late," replied the tall vampire as he shook his head. "Oh well, this should be rather . . . entertaining."
* * * *
"What the bloody hell is wrong with this rotting machine!" Spike kicked his television with his foot, sending it soaring backwards and crashed into the wall, sparking for several seconds until it died down. Spike’s newly stolen TV, specially equipped with cable, was getting fuzzy again and Spike was getting fed up with it. The whole Slayer-thing was the real thing bugging him, and Spike was just letting it out on his (crappy excuse for a) television.
"And that was one of me better ones- free cable too," growled Spike, as he quickly rose up. Spike stopped for a moment and listened as he heard people shouting and roaring outside of his crept. "Great . . . the Slayer’s out on her rounds again." Spike quickly rose up from his falling apart couch, and reached for the stake right by his television pieces. "Might as well interfere a bit."
Spike quickly made his way out of his crept, grabbing his armed crossbow as he did, and headed to the surface where he quickly located the noise and the fighting that had distorted his television set. But to his surprise, Buffy wasn’t among the people fighting above. In fact, none of them were actually people; there were vampires fighting against each other.
But Spike’s focus was on the cage that the vampires seemed to be fighting over. Within the cage was an injured Jerrold, peering and observing the fight.
"Well hello," replied Spike, as a smirk drew over his face. "If these vamps are fightin over our lil Jay, then there’s probably a rich price on his little head. Screw the Slayer." Spike’s smile seemed to grow as his face reverted to its demonic form, drawing forth his sharp teeth and piercing eyes. "She tips cheap anyhow."
* * * *
Jay moaned as he regained consciousness and glanced around at his situation. Things were a bit fuzzy but he could manage to make out the triad of vampires that had attacked him, as well as several other vampires who were probably from a rival group.
As he continued to glance around, he noticed a large crack on the bottom of his cage. It probably had dropped on a rock at one point and now several bars on the vampire’s cage were ready to pop off.
"I’m really not in the mood for this," growled Jay, as he slammed himself against the side of the cage, toppling it over, knocking the cage on its side. Jay drew his foot back and kicked the bottom of the cage, knocking off the broken bars.
As Jay quickly rose up, he suddenly realized he was unarmed and became aware that two vampires had realized that he had managed to release himself.
Jay moaned and began to run away from the two vamps, but Jay hadn’t realized how tired and exhausted he truly was. He was more stumbling away than anything else. And as they approached him, he could hear the vampires growling and snarling with entertainment and delight.
One of the vamps released a deadly growl and Jay quickly spun around just in time to see one of the vampires lung towards him. And as the vamp did, Jay froze in horror, almost waiting for the vamp to catch him. But as he came within several feet from Jay, the vampire suddenly froze and before it could tackle Jay, the vamp suddenly exploded into cloud of dust.
Behind the dust and remains of the vampire stood a horrified vamp who slowly turned around to see the ever so familiar Spike standing on top of a tomb, pointing his crossbow towards the second vampire.
"Hello kiddies." Spike chuckled as he dropped to the ground and the second quickly snarled and lunged at Spike. Instead of just killing the meager vamp right away, Spike decided to have some fun with it and toy with it. As it came in towards Spike, the de-fanged vampire drew back his arm and whacked the vampire lackey in the face, sending it stumbling backwards.
Spike quickly lunged in towards the vampire as it lay helpless on the ground, but it managed to quickly roll out of the way as Spike’s stake plunged into the ground. The vampire managed to get behind Spike and kicked the chip-wearing vampire in the back, sending him flying forward without his stake.
As Spike hit the ground and rolled forward, he attempted to regain control but ended up slamming into a rock, and falling backwards. As he did, the other vamp quickly grabbed Spike’s stake from the ground and lunged towards the fallen vampire. When the vampire lackey was in staking distance of Spike, he was knocked down by the younger half-vampire, and knocked the stake from out of his hands.
Jay, who was bordering on losing control of his vampiric, reared his fist back and punched the lackey in the face, forcing him to hobble backwards several steps. But Jay still didn’t have all of his strength back, and his punches weren’t very effective and gave the lackey a chance to knock him around. He grabbed Jay’s fist in midair and began twisting his arm and then shoved Jay forward, sending him stumbled towards Spike, but ended up tripping over the big rock and landing on the other side of it.
Dazed from being rammed into by Jay and from being thrown around, Spike rose up and glanced around, dusting off his jacket when he suddenly sensed the other vampire coming in towards him with his stake. So Spike attempted to swivel around to catch the stake in midair, but instead the stake ended up jabbing into Spike’s arm when he didn’t move fast enough.
"AH!" growled Spike in pain. "Bloody hell!"
The vampire lackey chuckled with amusement as he began to attempt to drive the stake through his arm and tried to strike his heart. "Tough luck vampire. Jay’s mine."
"Wrong again mate." Suddenly, before the lackey could react, Spike swiftly struck the vampire’s head with his thick skull and sent the lackey stumbling backwards. Spike had quickly vamped out and pulled the stake from out of his arm. Spike snarled evilly and lunged at the dazed vampire. The stake went straight through the vampire’s heart before he could attack Spike again and the vampire quickly crumbled into dust.
"Thanks Spike," replied Jay, still vamped out and somewhat dazed from the stumbling, as he held up his hand waiting for Spike to pull him up. The white-hair vampire snorted and chuckled with amusement as he headed away from Jay and towards the other two fights that were happening. Damien, the vampire from last night, was fighting a larger vampire, while his two lackeys were fighting a tall, slender, vampire, that seemed to be moving speedily and easily evading them.
Obviously the slender vampire would be a problem for Spike, so he decided to help out Damien with the larger vampire. That left Jay to figure out what to do with the remaining three vampires.
Jay moaned as he realized how tired he still was. Jay reverted to his human self, Jerrold, for a moment until he realized that he’d definitely be needed. He watched as the slender vampire staked the male lackey and it exploded into dust, realizing that just left Damien’s female lackey. She wouldn’t last long unless Jerrold stepped in, and even if he did, Jerrold would end up being stabbed, literally, in the back. But just standing around probably wouldn’t do any good. But Jerrold was pretty careful so this wouldn’t truly be a problem.
"Like I always say," murmured Jerrold. He closed his eyes and he quickly vamped out, his forehead getting thicker, his eyes narrowing, his teeth sharpening, and finished, "This should be fun." Jay quickly rushed towards Damien’s remaining lackey as the slender vampire was punching and kicking her, preparing to stake her.
Jay stepped in and tossed the female lackey out of the way from the speedy vampire as he ended up lunging towards Jay. The half-vampire gave a devilish smirk and kicked the stake from out of the speedy vamp’s hands, sending it flying upwards. Jay shoved the speedy vampire backwards and slammed it into the tree. As the stake dropped to the ground, Jay quickly caught it in midair and swiveled around as the female vampire lackey arose up. He staked her before she could do anything and she shattered into millions of pieces of dust.
* * * *
Spike quickly rushed over to the black vampire who was being knocked around by the taller and bulkier vampire. Spike snarled, still vamped out, and rushed at the bulky vampire. He tackled the bulky vampire and tried shoving him to the ground, but he was too tall and couldn’t knock him down. In the end, Spike was being held up in the air by his neck, as the black vampire was being held up by the other hand of the larger, bulky vampire.
Jay saw that danger that both Spike and Damien were in, though he wasn’t quite sure why he’d be worried about Damien, who had attempted to rescue him. But something inside of him told him that he should help him, even though he knew that Damien would attempt to fight him again.
"You’re coming with me Jay," growled the speedy vampire as he pushed himself away from the tree and towards Jay. Though he was unarmed, he figured he could easily take out Jay. But Jay knew that he would be able to defeat him in several minutes, but Spike and Damien would be dead- or at least deader- before then.
"Sorry, don’t have time to deal with your delusions," replied Jay, holding up his stake, and then kicked aside the other stake, so the slender vampire wouldn’t get a hold of it to stake Jay with. Jay moved towards the slender vampire and was going to pop him in the head with his elbow, but the vampire quickly moved out of the way in the blink of an eye, making Jay crack the tree he had slammed the vampire into. "Okay . . ."
The slender vampire quickly rolled away towards the idle stake, as Jay growled angrily and rubbed his arm, which he had badly hurt when cracking the tree. But Jay knew that Spike and Damien wouldn’t last long, so he quickly made his way towards the larger vampire. But as he did, the slender vampire struck him in the head, and sent him hurling forward.
Jay landed by the bulky vampire, who realized that Spike and Damien were a side note and could easily deal with them later while he might not get a second chance with Jay. So he tossed the two vampires far away, and drew forth his stake and jumped on top of Jay.
"You’re worth a lot more dusted," replied the bulky vampire. He chuckled. "And now that money’s mine."
Chapter Six
"Well, at least I’m worth something nowadays," muttered Jay, almost seeing amusement in the situation. "Back in the old days, I was just another vamp to be dusted." Jay glanced around, waiting for Spike to help him, or for Damien to stake the other vamp so he could have Jay for his boss. But both were too far away, and they needed to recover from the attack.
"I believe the phrase is dust to-" But before the vampire could finish his corny line, a large, gray, blurry creature jumped the bulky vampire and slammed it to the ground. Jay quickly got up and saw a drooling, almost hair-less, gray, leathery-skinned, boar-like beast, clawing and biting away at the bulky vamp as the speedy, slender vampire stared in horror.
Jay took this moment attack the slender vampire before he could do anything. Jay jumped into the air and punched the slender vampire before it could react. The slender vamp dropped to the ground, and Jay pressed his foot down to force him to the ground. Jay held up his stake plunged towards the victim. He staked the slender vampire as it shattered into millions and millions of pieces, leaving Jay to worry about Damien, and the huge demonic creature lay in his way.
He glanced around but all he could see was the white-hair vampire as he approached the half-vamp, panting and moaning. "What the bleeding hell is it?"
"Never seen it before," murmured Jay, as they watched it tear apart the bulky vampire. He noticed that Damien wasn’t in sight anymore. "Where’d Damien go?"
"Who?" asked Spike slowly, as the vamp continued getting mauled by the beastly demon.
"The black vampire who was fighting with you couple of seconds ago," answered Jay.
"Ran off." Spike and Jay froze in terror as the monstrous boar-like demon ripped off the vampire’s head with its gigantic tusks, and before it could eat it, or suck on it, or whatever the hell it was going to do, the vampire shattered into millions of pieces of dust, leaving the demon with nothing to snack on; nothing but them. "Bloody hell."
"You," growled the demon, flashing an evil smirk and pointing towards Jay.
"Considering how lousy a eater he is, that demon’s got some good talkin’ skills," murmured Spike flatly, as it slowly made its way towards them.
"You are the damned vampire- the Doomed One," growled the boar-like demon. "Our master is looking forward to meeting you."
"Our?" repeated Jay.
"Damien works for me," growled the creature. "I work for my master, who has a particular interest in you and your curse, Jay." The monstrous demon snarled and began drooling again, as his long, sharp tusks twinkled in the night.
"Everyone seems to be lookin’ for me these days," muttered Jay.
"Master?" growled Spike. "That would be?"
"None of your business, vampire," replied the gray, over-large boar-like demon flatly. "If it weren’t for my master, I’d just be another savage demon in my world." Apparently, this demon had been pulled out from another dimension of some sort, which was why neither Spike nor Jay recognized it. But before they could do anything about it, all hell broke loose.
Seven vampires appeared from behind a mausoleum, one of them was Damien, and appeared to be coming to the monster’s aid. That would make it seven vampires, along with one "ugly-ass" demon, against Spike and Jay wouldn’t last too long, both of them knew that.
"I should’ve stayed in my crept," muttered Spike, rubbing his arm. "All bruised up, and about to fight to the death . . . oh well, at least they weren’t showin any new Passions yet."
"Quit whining," mumbled Jay, rubbing his shoulder, which had been injured last night. "We could take out a few." He watched as they approached, most armed with stakes, one or two armed with axes, and Damien the only one unarmed. "Give or take."
But, as the seven undead demons approached, an arrow hurled through the air and staked one of them as they exploded into dust.
Jay spun around and a blonde girl who looked like she was around his age, smirked as she drew down a crossbow and holding an axe in the other hand, and wearing a cross around his neck. It was Isis, the metamorphic demon who aided him off and on. She was the one that had given him the location, though often times Jay had thought that Isis would send him on suicide missions, to see if he’d get killed or if she’d end up killing him herself one day.
But she was here now, armed and ready.
"Jay!" Isis tossed the axe towards the unarmed Jay, and quickly grabbed the axe in midair. Spike drew out several long, wooden arrows for his crossbow and nodded in agreement. "Let’s go!"
The large, beast-like demon stopped as the metamorphic demon stepped into action. Though she remained in her human form, she was pretty stealthy and strong and she probably wanted to conceal her identity to them, because she was a local here in Sunnydale.
Isis and Spike both armed themselves with the arrows and pointed them towards the incoming vampires and fired away as they continued towards them. Since Spike was a vampire, his accuracy was much better than Isis’s, and he ended up staking one of the vampires next to Damien in the chest, leaving only five vamps to deal with. Jay made his way towards the vamps, punching Damien in the face and swinging his axe at them, but managing to easily evade Jay’s attack.
As he got near, all five vampires began swarming around him, beating him and attacking him. This made it almost impossible for Spike and Isis to fire their crossbows, in fear they might end up shooting Jay.
Spike tossed his crossbow away from the beastly demon, who seemed to be watching the battle in amusement, and grabbed his stake while Isis tossed her crossbow too, and armed herself with holy water and a stake and they made their way towards the crowd.
"Watch out vampies!" Isis held up her cross and pressed it up against one of the vampires and the vamp began sizzling. The female vampire roared in pain and jumped out of the crowd and punched Isis in the face, sending her soaring backwards.
Spike grabbed one of the vampires by the neck and tossed him out of the crowd. Spike managed to stake one of the vampires too, who seemed too distracted with Jay to notice him, and when this happened, Damien and the remaining vampire moved off of Jay, who had apparently reverted back to Jerrold for some unknown reason.
"Vamp out," growled Spike angrily. "Unless you want you and your ‘ittle girly friend over there to get chopped to pieces."
Jerrold groaned as he rose up. "Isis can handle herself." He closed his eyes and tried to focus and transform into his other half. The only problem was when he did, he suddenly reverted back to his human side, Jerrold.
"Jay!" shouted Spike angrily. The white-hair vamp swiveled around and kicked one of the incoming vampires in the head, sending her falling over, dropping her axe. Spike lunged towards her and grabbed her axe. As she tried to get up, Spike kicked the female vamp in the face. He rolled towards her and as she was about to get up again, Spike chopped at her with his axe and his blade sliced through the vampire’s neck. Before her head could hit the ground, the vampire shrieked and exploded into dust.
Spike made his way back to Jerrold, who was fighting off another one of the vampires. Jerrold, who couldn’t seem to vamp out, was beginning to lose, so Spike stepped in. He tackled the vampire and elbowed him in the face, and kneeing him in his unmentionable area. That left Spike a chance to stake him and quickly dusted the vampire lackey.
Jerrold glanced around and glared angrily at the beastly demon. "It’s doing it somehow . . . he did it before at school. I suddenly reverted to Jay. He’s manipulating my soul and other half somehow."
Spike, who really didn’t care, nodded and patted Jerrold on the back. "Go for it ‘ittle vamp! Kick his ass!"
Jerrold nodded and held up his axe up in the air and went after him.
"That damned bastard’s gonna get ‘im vamp-self killed," muttered Spike. All of a sudden, Spike dropped to the ground after a deadly blow from Damien’s fist hit him.
"Watch your mouth, vampire," growled Damien with amusement.
"Look who’s talking lil bit." Spike quickly shot up again and punched the younger vampire in the chest, knocking him to the ground.
* * * *
Jerrold yelled and hollered at the beastly demon as he raised his axe high in the air and lunged towards the demonic creature. Jerrold swung his axe towards the creature, but as he did the creature shot out its arm and sent Jerrold soaring backwards and hit the ground several feet away from the creature.
"You are right," growled the beast. "I am controlling your soul." It snarled and dripped saliva as it had been doing before. As it did, the monstrous creature stared in Jerrold’s eyes and before he knew it, he had reverted back to Jay, his vampire conscious. "Fighting Jerrold would be to easy . . . killing you Jay would be a bit entertaining- plus it’d last longer."
This time, it was the demon that attacked Jay. As the creature jumped up into the air above Jay, the half-vampire pointed the butt of the axe towards the demon and jabbed the monster in the gut, sending it hurling backwards using his additional Slayer strength that had been passed down into him.
The monster went flying and knocked over two trees in the doing. Surprisingly, it wasn’t dead after the shocking blow. But Jay knew that if more vampires were coming, he’d need to get into an open area, in fear of not getting staked. This beast would definitely follow him so he quickly started running.
As Jay started to flee, the creature caught sight of the remaining vampires fighting Spike and one vampire taking on a young blonde girl. So, he figured this situation didn’t need him, and he knew more vampires would inevitable come, and the beast decided to flee the area, after Jay.
As Jay drove away demon, Isis continued her fight with a vampire she had chosen to fight.
Isis kicked the female vampire in the face and it stumbled backwards. She quickly twisted off the jar of holy water and it hit the female vampire in the face, and she quickly began to steam.
Isis smirked and chuckled, as she watched the vampire squirm in terror. "Vampires are all so amusing, though I usually try to avoid ‘em." Isis eyed her for a moment as Isis reverted to her original demon form. "You’re a pretty vampire too. Round my human form’s height, white, blonde, almost exactly like my human form." Isis’s demonic form was somewhat smaller then her human. She was almost completely gray and pale, extremely thin and harmless, extremely plain looking at that fact. She had no hair, her hands were small, and her fingers had no nails, almost harmless. Her chest was pretty thin, flat as well, and her arms were really, really scrawny and small. She smirked with amusement as she neared towards the vampire, who was in a large amount of pain.
Isis’s pale gray eyes stared at the vampire as it quickly froze in horror and realized what Isis truly was. Isis’s eyes began to glow a bright red and stared deep into the vampire’s eyes. This was Isis’s second ability she had, other than transforming: Her eyes were able to paralyze her victims before she fed on them.
"No," murmured the she-vamp, when she couldn’t run away.
"Been nice knowin ya . . . gonna be better eatin ya." Isis’s smirk and revealed a couple of sharp teeth. Similar to a vampire, her demon form feed off blood, but she did it in order to obtain their DNA, their blood, their form, their life. Isis gripped the vampire and squeezed her tight and suddenly opened up her mouth to reveal five large rows of sharp, long teeth, somewhat like a shark. Isis snarled and sunk her teeth into the vampire’s neck, as all of her teeth sunk into the vampire’s neck, piercing the skin, and sinking deep into her neck and quickly drained the vampire of what remained of her blood. Within seconds, the vampire’s (little) blood had been completely drained and it dropped to the ground. Within seconds, it shattered into dust. Without blood, vampires couldn’t survive, they couldn’t keep on going, and now that Isis had drained this vamp of her blood, it was useless.
Blood dripped off of every single one of Isis’s teeth, as she revealed a demonic grin and closed her eyes. The metamorphic demon began to change as her form transformed into the female vamp. She simply checked out the form to see if it had been successful.
She appeared to have transformed into a normal girl, looking similar to Isis, the human girl she had killed several months ago, who’s identity she now owned. She hid in that form because of what she had done years ago. But now, she had gone to Sunnydale and hid within the form of this girl to protect herself from forces throughout the world that had hunted her down.
Isis focused for a moment and suddenly, her forehead thickened, her eyes narrowed and change colors, her features became hard, and her teeth began large and sharp, but not as large as her teeth she had in her demonic form. Isis felt the thirst and lust of blood come over her, the urge of a vampire. Just another meaningless urge she got from another meaningless demon that ultimately meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.
Isis then reverted back to her demonic form and transformed to her human side and shook her hair out, realizing how much she enjoyed and preferred her human hair to her demonic hair. She knew Spike would probably need some help, and if there were more vampires out there, Jay’s presence, and reward, would inevitable draw them to there. She and Spike would need help.
Plus, after this, she would want to go after Jay, the creature the she had come to the graveyard that night to hunt down. This would be the night that she knew would be the ultimate end for Jay. So Isis called for her.
"Buffy!"
Chapter Seven
Buffy and Isis had gone their separate ways in search of Jay since they didn’t find him or any of the vampires in the center of the cemetery. Isis explained to the Slayer the Jerrold, currently known as Jay, considered her a mutual friend so he couldn’t attack he saw her. So they decided to split up to cover more ground.
Buffy had been searching for a while and she was getting pretty bored. A vampire had shown up, so to occupy her boredom, she was knocking around the undead demon for a while. But after awhile of punching and kicking, the Slayer was getting a little bored, which meant searching for Jay would be even more dull. But within seconds . . .
"Buffy!" The blonde Slayer stopped in horror as she heard Isis, the metamorphic demon that was aiding her, release a blood curling scream.
The vampire, who was seriously bruise, dazed, and almost waiting for Buffy to stake her, slammed into a tree. But before Buffy could simply stake him, she noticed something sticking out from his chest as he exploded into dust. Buffy had accidentally knocked the vampire into a tree branch, killing the demonic creature.
"Buffy!" Isis shouted again from several graveyards down.
Buffy sighed as she picked up her crossbow, which the vamp had knocked down several seconds before, and the Slayer moaned as she began running towards the shouting. Buffy was getting slightly annoyed with Isis: First she didn’t come armed and forced Buffy to venture back to her house. Isis also had somewhat of an attitude that the Slayer wasn’t too fond off. Isis, who was perfectly capable of killing stuff on her own was now in trouble, and Buffy had to come to her rescue. Though Buffy liked the idea of doing something, something finally clicked that helping a demon wasn’t truly worth it. "I leave Isis alone for one minute. . ."
Buffy quickly came rushing towards Isis’s voice.

Jay had special skills, being a vampire that was "cursed" (though most don’t consider this part a curse) to have the strength and abilities of a Slayer, so running was a skill that Jay used often. Jay managed to leap and jumped over graves and stones and such, but the demon was quickly catching up to Jay.
Eventually, the leathery, gray-skinned, almost hairless and drooling demonic beast had managed to catch up to the half-vampire, and when he was in reach of the hero it lunged and tackled Jay, slamming him to the ground, crushing him and pinning him.
The instant Jay hit the floor, he threw his axe backwards and it sunk into the demon’s back. It howled in pain and Jay elbowed it in the face, sending it soaring up into the air.
Jay flipped on his back and as it came falling to the ground Jay pulled back his legs and kicked the creature in the stomach and sent him flying backwards, landing several feet away. Unfortunately, it didn’t crush another tree because they were in a relatively open area. So it quickly rushed towards Jay as he began to get up.
The second Jay was back on his feet, the monster rammed into Jay, trampling the vampire as Jay got bruises and cuts from the creature.
"AH!" growled Jay, as he quickly got up and as he did the beast jumped him from the front, pinning him to the ground.

"You know, I’ve heard of you from other vamps," growled Damien, as Spike grab attempted to punch at him, but he managed to catch each and every one of the incoming blows. "They say you are one of the ones who fought in the death of the Initiative."
The vampire shrugged and he dived in towards Damien, elbow first. But Damien caught his elbow, and by surprise Spike punched the vampire in the gut and forced him to slam into a tree. As Spike chuckled with satisfaction, he replied, "So what? Tons o’ vamps and demony things were at the Initiative."
"But none of them were helping the Slayer and her gang," replied Damien, as his eyes glinted with some happiness, even after being knocked down by Spike.
"What’s your . . ." Spike glared at Damien as he continued smirking with satisfaction. Spike sighed and in a split second, Spike swiveled around and staked the vampire that had been attempting to sneak up on him. Other than the vampire that Isis was now dealing with, the only one left was Damien. "Sorry mate. No score tonight."
"Damn. I’ll haveta do all this work myself." Damien jumped up and punched Spike in the face, forcing him to stumble backwards and breaking his nose. Damien lunged in for a staking, but Spike swung his fist at Damien, knocking the stake out of his hand.
But as Spike did that, Damien punched Spike in his gut and then elbowed him in the face. Spike quickly shot his face up and drew forth his stake and dived in to attempt to defeat Damien. But before Spike could get close enough, Damien knocked the stake out of his hand and kicked the lab-rat vampire in the gut and forced him to stumble backwards again.
Both of them stood unarmed, staring and glaring at each and panting from exhaustion.

Meanwhile, Isis and the male vampire, the last vamp there besides Damien, were facing off against each other. And Isis appeared to be losing. Isis could easily transform into a demon, but she knew a majority of her demonic transformations could easily be killed off by vampires and she was attempting to hide her identity as Isis, and if she transformed in front of other demons, they’d realize who she was.
And discover what she had done.
The male vampire, which was much taller than her and relatively older than her, snarled angrily at Isis and lunged at the girl in attempt to bite her.
The metamorphic demon quickly dropped to the ground, managing to evade the incoming attack and tried to stake the demon, but ended up hitting the vampire in the gut. The lackey roared in pain and grabbed Isis by the back up her shirt and lifted her up in the air.
"Let me go!" shouted Isis. She swung her foot backwards and kicked the stake that was still in the vampire’s gut, causing searing pain throughout the vampire, letting his grip loosen on Isis.
Isis hit the groin and suddenly she lost control of her human form and reverted back to her plain, demonic form. She moaned as she suddenly felt helpless, almost knowing that her human form wouldn’t be enough to kill this vamp. So she closed her eyes and transformed into her vampire transformation.
The male vampire suddenly froze in terror as he recognized his vampire ally. "Tami?" growled the vamp in horror.
Isis gave a satisfied grin, holding up the cross, showing that she wasn’t harmed by the holy cross. "Wrong." Isis shook her hair and quickly vamped out and lunged towards the male vampire.
Before she could start knocking the demonic creature around, the vampire’s eyes suddenly widened and released a brief shriek as it shattered into dust. Behind the vampire stood the vampire blonde Slayer, Buffy.
"Took you long enough," replied Isis as she quickly reverted back to her natural demonic form and then back to her human form.
"How many vampires left?" ordered Buffy, glancing around at the situation.
Isis pointed to Spike, who was still dueling off against a black vampire named Damien. "Just them two. But I think Spike’s havin’ a pretty good time."
Buffy sighed and replied, "Yeah . . . That’s Spike for ya- the vamp doesn’t get out much. There’s this whole ‘not killing’ and undead iss-" Buffy suddenly stopped when she froze and glanced around in confusion. She squinted her eyes for a moment and began walking towards where Spike and Damien were fight.
She lightly moved passed the two vampires and suddenly froze in slight confusion as she drew out her stake and glared and quickly swiveled around towards Isis and quickly shouted, "Isis! Behind you!"
The metamorphic demon gave a confused look as she began to slowly turn around but before she could even see what Buffy had warned her of, something grabbed her arm that held her stake.
The hand squeezed Isis’s frail arm and forced her to drop her stake, leaving Isis appearing unarmed. Isis bashed her elbow in the face of whatever was behind her and grabbed her cross and swiveled around and pressed it against the demon. Fortunately, it was a vampire as she had anticipated and the cross quickly began burning the demon.
It roared in pain and quickly began backing away. By this time Buffy had managed to get over towards Isis. Buffy moved Isis out of the way, and lunged towards the momentarily stunned vampire, quickly staking it on sight.
"Thanks," replied Isis slowly.
"Don’t thank me yet," replied Buffy, tossing her the stake and picking up the one off the ground. "There’s about a dozen more vampires heading our way. Night’s not over yet."
Isis nodded. "Plus there’s Jay."
Buffy quickly shot Isis a look and glared. "Where is he?"
"Dunno. Big demony thing was chasing him," answered Isis slowly. She shook her head and nudge towards a vampire that was several meters away. "You can get Jay if ya want, just get him after these vamps are gone- or at least till I’m save."
Isis closed her eyes and quickly vamped out and gave a snarl of excitement and quickly grabbed her stake. "Don’t lag behind Slayer."
Buffy sighed and shook her head. She glanced at Spike and then glanced Isis and groaned. "Why is it that I keep on getting help from these demons . . ."

Jay began gasping and groaning as the leathery beast pinned Jay to the ground, only leaving his idle hand free. "What the hell are you!"
"I am from another world that you do not know of," growled the beastly creature, drooling on Jay and his clothing. "They called me a Drokken, a savage beast from an unruly dimension." It opened its drooling mouth and its hot breath poured onto the pinned down Jay, and the demon sunk its twin tusks into the half-vampire’s shoulder.
Attempting to withstand the pain, Jay sarcastically remarked, "Savage? You?" Jay struck out his hands and his fist grabbed a belly full of the creature’s leathery skin and yanked on it as hard as he possibly could. The monster roared in pain, releasing its grasp on Jay’s shoulder and the vampire quickly slammed his head into the monster’s, and then slid out from under the creature. Jay managed to get to his feet and kicked the monster in the face, sliding it back a little.
Jay backed up and quickly ran at full speed towards the demon, which had called itself a Drokken, and Jay jumped over the demon and flipped in the air and grabbed the axe that was still in the Drokken’s back. As Jay pulled the blade out, the creature roared in pain as Jay landed on the other side of the creature.
"You think a meager little blade can kill me," growled the Drokken, as it swiveled around, snarling and drooling. With incredible speed, the Drokken quickly lunged at Jay, tackling the half-vamp and sending it hurling backwards.
As the Drokken leaped into the air, Jay quickly drew back his axe and quickly hurled it towards the incoming Drokken. Jay’s vampiric sense and his Slayer-like sense combined as his axe nailed the other-worldy demonic beast right through the head, and its lifeless body collided into Jay, knocking him to the ground.
Jay froze for a moment, as he slowly started to take in everything, and as the Drokken lay on top of him. Jay panted for a moment and then shoved the leathery beast off of him, which surprisingly took a lot out of him. As he did, Jay discovered an odd substance on his buzz-cut, which he had recently gotten, as well as his shirt that he could quickly identify as a mixture of Drokken’s blood and its saliva.
"This is just great," muttered Jay, as he rubbed his head, trying to get the thick mixture off of his head.
Unfortunately, the half-vampire half-human was extremely exhausted, tired, and dazed from the fight with the Drokken. And Jay was still fighting an internal battle as he attempted to subside the urge to fully let out the darker demonic half of Jay. So, in attempts to stop that, Jay quickly reverted back to Jerrold and quickly dropped to his knees. It took him a second to collect himself, realizing that the two tusk marks in his shoulder would be better of if he remained in his vampiric form. And, off in the distance, he could hear the shriek of a vampire quickly exploding into dust. He realized that the Drokken, or whoever it’s master was, had been stocked up on vampires that were now hunting him down. And Spike and Isis were fighting them off for him.
Jerrold took a couple of deep breaths again, and as he did he sensed something coming, so he stayed down on his knee, attempting to appear helpless. But after several seconds, he felt the sensation fade away and he was about to get up when all of a suddenly something small soared right passed the half-human’s head and slammed into faraway tree. It was Jerrold’s dagger-like stake.
Jerrold quickly rose up and spun around and there stood the Slayer, the one who had kept his stake after their previous match in the cemetery.
"Took ya long enough," growled Jerrold, attempting to act tough, even though the Drokken had worn him out. Extremely annoyed that she had run off with his stake, and the fact that he was seriously taking a disliking to the Slayer of Vampires, Jerrold subtly let himself let go, lose control of his vampiric side. His face quickly went from moderately tough fourteen year old, to the dark, demonic vampire known as Jay. "Time to finish this."
Buffy smirked with amusement as she drew out her crossbow and held her stake in the other hand. She watched Jay for a moment, allowing himself to realize that he was currently unarmed since his axe lay in the skull of the Drokken. "Couldn’t have said it better myself."
"Time to finish this." "Couldn’t have said it better myself." Even though they’re both heroes, they are from different worlds, and now Isis, a common "ally," has pitted them against each other in a fight to the death. Last time they didn’t manage to finish each other off, but this battle shall have a different result. The Slayer will face off against the Doomed Vampire as a darker evil lurks throughout Sunnydale. Too fed up with stopping the other, Buffy and Jay are unaware of the coming darkness that will force them to join forces, with the help of Spike and Isis, to defeat a demon thought to be killed. But the real danger lies in the creature that controls it . . . Doomed – The Attack.
