When Angel arrives on the scene, he's shocked to discover he recognizes some of the ubjects of the portraits. Distant memories of a night spent with storytellers Mary and Percy Shelley recall and artist Darla, his longtime paramour and partner in crime, once favored. But can that artist still be alive today?
An ancient evil is using a painting to keep its body alive and intact, and in the meantime is preying on a child. In the process of saving the child, Cordelia, Angel, Gunn, and Wesley are going to learn the hard way that looks aren't everything.
Time Period: This takes place during the second half of Season Two (After Dead End).
Author: Mel Odom (also wrote Tales of the Slayer, Unnatural Selection, Revenant, Angel: Redemption, Angel: Bruja, Crossings.)
Starring: Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, and Gunn.
Supporting Cast: Angelus, Darla, Merl, The Host, Gray, Faroe Burke, Gabriel, Vincent, Cara, and Jacob.
Review: Something that Mel Odom does really well in this book is have several separate storylines (a Gunn plot/an Angel plot/and a Cordelia, Wesley, Merl plot) all fit into one story and actually have them all work with each other, and wrap up in the end of the story. It's just great. The writing style is great, the characterization is great (it's a somewhat Gunn-centric book), and it can be just so funny, especially with Merl in the story. It's terrific. Again, Four Stars (gotta love S2).
