Crystal isn't above playing favorites, and her pets--including Willow, Micheal, and Anya--are loyal to her in the extreme. This wouldn't bother Buffy...but for the fact that she has found a fresh burn mark on two of the students' necks. Giles immediately recognizes the symbol as the mark of a powerful witch whose existence predate the Salem With Trials.
The primal witch will continue to wreak havoc until she successfully gathers a coven of thirteen people who have magickal ability. Once the group is created, she will perform a moonlit ritual to endow herself with infinte power, at which point all the members of her clan--indeed, all human beings--will be subject to her will. Buffy's going to need her Wicca girl, will to say the world this time--but can Willow be persuaded by reason before it's too late?
Time Period: Events take at the end of Season Three (after Dopplegangland, before The Prom).

Review: A warning before you buy this book. If you have not read Immortal, The Gatekeeper Trilogy, Obsidian Fate, or any other book issued before this one, there might be a chance that the author will hint something about the story. Yeah, annoying huh? Although there are some high points in this story (including an early appearance of Anya), this isn't a very great story. It bored me to tears, and although I wanted to finish reading it, some of the flashbacks were just so dull, I skipped over them. But, all in all, parts of the story were good. Anya's early feelings for Xander are explored in this book. Willow's use of magick is also explored. Micheal, Amy's goth friend, returns in this book as well. Although not very strong, the characters are well described. If they cut out all of Crystal Gregory's flash backs, the story would have been better. This gets Two Stars. If you are an Anya or Willow or fan of magicks on the show, then you might like this book.
